Mark Bernfeld is an experienced entrepreneur and angel investor with a commitment to environmentally and socially responsible businesses. He is also Professor of Practice in the Finance Department at Northeastern University, and a Visiting Scholar at Dartmouth College. Mark also oversees several smaller businesses and enjoys mentoring both startups and students. He is a member of and active angel investor with Launchpad Venture Group and Clean Energy Venture Group, and he serves on a number of startup boards. Nick Myers is the CEO of Phoenix Tailings and an alumni of Northeastern. While on campus, Nick founded the Huntington Angels Network. After roles within investment banking and startup accelerators, such as Techstars, Nick decided that the best way to make a positive impact on the world was by attempting to revitalize an outdated industry with his own novel idea. Started in Fall 2018, Phoenix Tailings is working to revolutionize the mining industry with long term, sustainable solutions.
Nick Christian is Head of Specialty Finance for Silicon Valley Bank. He is responsible for the Bank’s Strategic Capital Group and Warehouse Lending practice. Previously Nick was a Managing Director for the Debt Platform focused on product development and capital formation strategies. Nick was a Founding Member of the Strategic Capital Group at SVB. The Strategic Capital Group provides junior debt options, namely mezzanine and convertible debt, for growth stage technology companies. Since Inception the group has provided over $2B in commitments to over 140 companies nationwide and in Europe and Israel. While with the Strategic Capital Group he had various responsibilities including sales originations, operations and partnership platform development.
Kevin J. Scanlon
Dr. Kevin Scanlon’s career spans roles in academic medicine, senior management in the pharmaceutical industry and biotech companies, as well as an individual investor. Dr. Scanlon was identified by LA Techweek in 2013 as an individual impacting the Los Angeles business and the technology landscape on a significant scale. During the two years Dr. Scanlon served as the Chairman of Pasadena Angels Investment Group, ~100 investors funded over 50 companies for $9.0 MM. He has been CEO of four biotechnology companies, including Melanoma Diagnostics, which was sold to Myriad Genetics. At Berlex-Schering AG (Berlin, Germany), he was responsible for the genomic and cancer programs in the US, Europe and Asia.
